USC (8-8, 2-3 Pac-12) had a two-game win streak snapped on Wednesday, falling in a 72-64 home loss to Washington State. The Trojans were held to just 37.9% shooting for the night, but still managed to have a one-point lead with just over two minutes left. However, they weren’t able to put another point on the board as the Cougars re-took the lead and pulled away.
Colorado (11-5, 2-3 Pac-12) has come hurling back down to earth with three straight losses heading into tonight’s game and last edged by Cal in an 82-78 road setback on Wednesday. The Buffaloes had actually built up a 19-point lead early in the second half, only to sit by and watch as the Golden Bears stormed back and pull ahead for the win.
This is a battle of two of the tallest teams in the country, so it’ll be interesting to see which team can use their length to gain an advantage on both ends of the floor. Colorado is the ninth-best three-point shooting team in the nation at 39.6%, so watch how it does from downtown against a USC team that has been vulnerable against the three.
What this game means for USC
USC has been unable to establish any momentum this season as wins have usually been followed up with a disappointing loss. This is a Quad 1 game for the Trojans and a victory here could give them a confidence boost heading into a tough road battle at Arizona next Wednesday.
What this game means for Colorado
Colorado was looking like an early Pac-12 contender just 10 days ago and fallen flat on its face since then. A three-game losing streak isn’t ideal, but a four-game losing streak would put them in free fall territory. The Buffs absolutely need to stop the bleeding with a win tonight.
