UNLV Runnin’ Rebels quarterback Jayden Maiava was one of the biggest surprises of the 2023 college football season, and it’s no surprise that some prominent programs took notice of him and began the transfer recruitment process. However, Maiava’s commitment has not gone particularly smoothly up to this point.
On Monday, Maiava announced by way of his father, William Maiava-Pratt, that he would be transferring to Georgia in January to play for the Bulldogs in the upcoming 2024 season. Because Maiava has not yet transferred, he is eligible to join the team immediately with no waiting period. He entered the transfer portal on January 2, the final day it was open.
However, on Tuesday, Maiava’s father said that the quarterback had decided to transfer to USC instead. While he technically has time to decide, Maiava will need to enroll in classes for the spring semester at whichever school he chooses. Classes began on Monday, January 8 for both schools.
Maiava has three remaining years of eligibility. He passed for 3,085 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2023, and rushed for another 277 yards and three touchdowns.
