The No. 4 UConn Huskies take on the Xavier Musketeers in a Big East matchup on Wednesday, January 10. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET from Cincinnati, Ohio.
UConn (13-2) ranks sixth overall at KenPom and fourth in adjusted offensive efficiency. The Huskies most recently defeated Butler on the road, 88-81. Their two losses this season have come at the hands of Seton Hall and Kansas, and their biggest wins have come against Gonzaga, Texas, and UNC. Led by Cam Spencer and Tristen Newton, who average 15.1 points per game apiece, the Huskies rank 18th in the nation in points per game with 83.5. They shoot 50.5% from the field, placing them at 9th in the country.
Xavier (7-7) is fresh off a one-point loss to Villanova. However, before that, they pulled off a 20-point win over Seton Hall. The Musketeers rank 42nd overall at KenPom and 24th in adjusted defensive efficiency. Guard Quincy Olivari leads Xavier with 17.9 points per game, and forward Abou Ousmane adds 6.4 boards per game. Xavier ranks 31st in the nation in three-point defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 29.6% from the perimeter. They grab 26.1 defensive rebounds per game, placing them at 40th in the nation.
The Musketeers bring a solid defense to the floor, but it will be a challenge for them to both slow down this high-powered UConn offense and keep up with them on the other end of the floor. Xavier will be playing catch-up for most of the game, and they simply do not have the shooting weapons necessary to shut down UConn. The Huskies will cover on the road.
