Could we finally get a showdown between the People’s Champ and the Tribal Chief?

The first Monday Night Raw of 2024 came live from San Diego tonight and we were treated to a surprise appearance by none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The People’s Champ spent most of his time running down Jinder Mahal on the mic before sending him on his way with a People’s Elbow and quite frankly, that’s not important.

What was important was the end of the segment, where he took a direct shot at undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.

“Head of the Table” is one of the many nicknames for Reigns and it’s a significant moment for Rock to finally name drop him in a promo.

Since Reigns began his historic title reign in August of 2020, it has long been speculated whether or not he’s face The Rock in a dream match. The two are distant cousins as part of the famed Anoa’i wrestling family tree and are the two biggest stars to come from it. Reigns has defeated superstar after superstar during his three-and-a-half year run as champion and that has led to years of rumors about a potential box office match between the two at Wrestlemania. Given Rock’s status as a mega Hollywood superstar, many thought the two would face each other at last year’s Wrestlemania in Los Angeles. However, that never materialized as Cody Rhodes emerged as Reigns’ opponent in the main event.

So now that Rock has finally acknowledged Reigns, it will be interesting to see how the Tribal Chief responds in the coming weeks. Reigns already has stars like Randy Orton, AJ Styles, and L.A. Knight lining up to challenge him at the top of the year and there’s still the looming specter of a rematch between him and Rhodes at Wrestlemania in April. The road to Philadelphia just got a lot more interesting and it’s just getting started.
