Alabama (12-1, 8-0 SEC) is back in the College Football Playoff and got here in controversial fashion, being selected by the committee over previously undefeated Florida State. Things were looking a bit dicey for the Crimson Tide early in the season as they lost to Texas and followed it up with an uninspiring performance against USF the following week. However, the team figured things out and ran the table the rest of the way, eventually knocking off two-time defending national champion Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Michigan (13-0, 9-0 Big Ten) is back in the CFP for a third straight season and like the Tide, also experienced controversy throughout the year. “Burger Gate” and a sign-stealing scandal dominated headlines throughout the fall and head coach Jim Harbaugh ended up serving suspensions for half of the regular season. Despite these distractions, the Wolverines still ran roughshod over their schedule and ended the regular season by defeating hated rival Ohio State for a third year in a row. They then followed that up by shutting out Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Michigan enters the game as a 1.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook, accompanied by a total of 45.
