Full list of qualifiers at bottom of page
June 6 11:15 a.m. ET: A playoff in Los Angeles saw Charley Hoffman and Preston Summerhays make the field, while Josh Anderson will be left home. We now have the set field for the 2023 U.S. Open, with alternates from all 13 regions now here to fill in the balance of the field which should be 156 players.
7:30 p.m. ET: As we continue updating below, a 50-year-old Stewart Cink will be back in a non-senior major once again. He landed on the number in Columbus, Ohio at -9, and will be part of the field at LACC.
There are four playoffs taking place right now, and we’re updating those below.
7:00 p.m. ET: The Hawks Ridge qualifier has wrapped up. Gordon Sargent is joined by Kyle Mueller and JJ Grey on his trip to Los Angeles. It looks like Woodmont will be heading to a playoff shortly. Lambton has also wrapped up, and Harry Hall and Michael Block both missed the cut.
6:30 p.m. ET: We’re starting to see the qualifiers wrap up on the east coast. Yuto Katsuragawa won at Old Chatham as the final few golfers attempt to hold onto their qualifying spots in Durham. It’s a tight race at Woodmont in the final few holes. Vanderbilt sophomore Gordon Sargent is cleaning up at Hawk Ridge, and three players are teeing off a playoff at Pine Tree for a single spot.
Carlos Ortiz is one of the three in the playoff. If he wins, he will be the second LIV golfer to join the U.S. Open through qualifiers after Sergio Garcia.
4:30 p.m. ET: It’s amateur hour — in a good way — at Canoe Brook, where it looks like amateurs Michael Thorbjornsen and Christian Cavaliere will capture two of the four spots. At 45 years old, David Sanchez shares the lead with three others at Old Chatham as they head to the back nine. Austin Truslow, who has made one cut in seven tournaments, leads the way by four strokes as he finishes up the 36 holes at Pine Tree.
3:45 p.m. ET: Korn Ferry Tour member JJ Grey has pulled ahead at Hawks Ridge Golf Club as players begin the final nine holes. University of Illinois sophomore Jackson Buchanan is also in the running for one of three spots there.
PGA TOUR golfers Beau Hossler and Taylor Pendrith are expected to qualify at Springfield Country Club. Peter Uihlein, Jason Kokrak, and Stewart Cink all sit outside the projected cut line at Brookside Golf & Country Club.
3:00 p.m. ET: We’re beginning to see tournaments hit the back nine of the second 18-hole rounds. Auburn University sophomore Ben Valdes is projected to make the cut at Pine Tree Golf Club, as is Stanford University junior Michael Thorbjornsen at Canoe Brook.
England’s Harry Hall, who made a run for the Charles Schwab Championship two weeks ago, leads the field at Lambton. Michael Block is tied for ninth at the same tournament.
2:00 p.m. ET: Amateur golfer Ben Warian, a junior at the University of Minnesota, currently leads the field at Tacoma Country & Golf Club, where there are just two spots available. Gordon Sargent, an amateur golfer and current sophomore at Vanderbilt University, leads the field at Hawks Ridge after the first round, where there are three spots available.
1:30 p.m. ET: PGA Championship sweetheart Michael Block is T10 at Lambton Golf & Country Club after finishing 18 holes, where there are three spots available. Australian Marc Leishman, who has won six PGA TOUR events in his career, remains in the lead after the first round at Woodmont Country Club.
12:45 p.m. ET: Thirteen-year-old Jaden Soong is T11 through two holes at Hillcrest Country Club, where there are five spots available. LIV’s Harold Varner III is T8 through nine holes at Old Chatham, where there are five spots available.
Brookside Golf & Country Club may have the strongest field of any of the qualifiers and will send 11 golfers to the Open. Four-time PGA TOUR winner Lucas Glover leads the field after the first round.
11:01 a.m. ET Wesley Bryan has made just two cuts in 10 starts on the PGA TOUR this year and doesn’t have exempt status, but the 2007 RBC Heritage winner is at -3 and T2 at Pine Tree Golf Club in Boynton Beach, Florida thru 13 holes. There are three spots available in that region.
Marc Leishman of Australia is one of five players in Rockville, Maryland that has made the first turn in the lead at -2. A total of four spots at LACC are available at Woodmont Country Club.
Kevin Chappel and Patrick Rodgers are both T1 as part of five players at -4 with 11 spots available at Brookside Golf & Country Club in Columbus, Ohio.
The U.S. Open will tee off on Thursday, June 15 from Los Angeles Country Club. Along with the big names in the field who qualified through winning past tournaments or through their rankings, the field will include golfers who participated in the pre-tournament qualifiers.
Any golfer, amateur or professional, with a handicap of 1.4 or below can enter into the U.S. Open qualifiers. Thousands of golfers each year flock to the regional qualifiers in an attempt to move onto the next round of the final qualifiers and join the field at the major. There were more than 10,000 entries this year, and 878 made it to the regional qualifiers for 64 spots.
Three of the 13 regionals took place in the last two weeks in Japan, England and one in Dallas that featured many players mostly competing at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Sergio Garcia of the LIV Tour was one of the players that qualified in Dallas.
On June 5, the remaining golfers will play a one-day, 36-hole qualifier. The best scores from the 10 Monday qualifiers will fill out the 53 remaining spots in the U.S. Open field. The number of golfers who advance to the Open from each regional qualifier is determined by the strength of the field.
We’ll add scores and updates all day here later, and keep an eye on which players might be a part of the field in 2023.
