The latest re-iteration of the XFL gets underway on Saturday with a four-game schedule for Week 1. The season opener features the Vegas Vipers taking on the Arlington Renegades. Ahead of kickoff, part-owner Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave a speech talking about opportunity and passion for the game of football.

The Rock and his ex-wife Dany Garcia are part of a larger group that owns the XFL. They also split other duties, with Johnson serving as the commissioner and Garcia as the CEO. They are both committed to making this edition of the XFL stick around for a long time. They don't seem to want to be the new NFL but realize the importance of giving these players another chance at making it.

With the NFL season over, this is a chance for players to put on a showcase ahead of NFL free agency. The XFL understands the platform that it has and is hoping to create something with the intention of it lasting.
