In their first year in Conference USA, the Jacksonville State Gamecocks look to stock up as many wins as possible entering conference play and will host the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) Flames on Friday.

Illinois-Chicago Flames vs. Jacksonville State Gamecocks (-1, 128.5)

The main form of offense for Jacksonville State this season has been scoring on second and third chances, ranking 60th in the nation in percentage of shots the result in an offensive rebound, with that mark climbing to 21st in home games with the team grabbing a rebound on 41.3% of their missed shots at home this season.

The Gamecocks offense will look to bust through on offense against a UIC defense that is 24th in the country in fewest points allowed per possession, but there’s reason to believe regression is coming.

UIC’s defense is currently allowing an opponents to shoot 23.2% from 3-point range, which ranks second in the country after the team was 205th in the country in this category during the 2022-23 season.

Considering the last time a team went a full season with their opponents shooting 26.4% from 3-point range was the 2004-05 Norfolk State Spartans, the defense figures to be in for regression.

Overall, Jacksonville State’s games tend to feature more offense at home than on the road. The Gamecocks rank 217th nationally in points scored on a per possession basis, but are scoring 11.9 points more per 100 possessions at home than on the road while their defenses is allowing five more points per 100 possessions at home than on the road.

The Flames offense also has its own home and road splits, ranking 106th overall in field goal shooting percentage, which ascends to 62nd in the country in games away from home with the team making 47.8% of their 2-point shot attempts at home and 55.8% of their 2-point shots when away from home.

The Flames road 2-point shooting percentage away from home ranks 33rd in the nation and with their 3-point shooting defense due for regression, it will lead to a higher scoring Friday clash.
