Just hours before the New England Patriots visit the Pittsburgh Steelers this evening, ESPN announced that Pats head coach Bill Belichick will be the College Gameday’s guest picker for Saturday’s Army-Navy game. This year’s game will take place at the Patriots’ home of Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, MA.

Serving as the guest picker for the annual rivalry between these two service academies will be a short reprieve from a miserable season for Belichick, who is having the worst campaign of his 24-year stint as Pats head coach. New England has been a mess and could be officially eliminated from postseason contention by the time Belichick is making his pick on Saturday.

As for Army-Navy, Belichick has a really close connection to the Naval Academy. He grew up in Annapolis, MD, where his father Steve served as an assistant coach. Being around the Navy staffs inspired him to go into coaching and over the years, he has spoken glowingly of service academy football.
