The king reigns supreme once again as Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry finished as the overall RB1 in half-PPR fantasy football leagues in Week 13. The biggest surprise at the top was Carolina Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard, who finished as the overall RB5 of the week. Let’s take a look at the best running back matchups in Week 14 of the fantasy football season.
Fantasy football, Week 14: Best RB Matchups
Austin Ekeler vs. Denver Broncos
Ekeler has looked like he is running through quicksand recently, but maybe this is the week that he turns it around. This will be the first of two matchups that the Los Angeles Chargers have against Denver. Ekeler heads into this week with 446 yards and four touchdowns on 126 carries. He adds 295 yards and another score on 31 receptions.
Denver’s numbers against running backs are still inflated from that game that they allowed 70 points to the Miami Dolphins. They faced the Houston Texans last week and allowed just 89 yards and one score on the ground. Dameon Pierce had the best game, picking up 41 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.
The Broncos allow the most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Ekeler hasn’t scored in his last three games and hasn’t had more than 67 rushing yards in a game since Week 1. He had 18 yards on 14 carries against the New England Patriots last week. Ekeler added nine more yards on two receptions.
Alvin Kamara vs. Carolina Panthers
Kamara didn’t play in the first three games of the season and still heads into Week 14 as the overall RB9 in half-PPR scoring formats. He has played in nine games this season and has 508 yards and four touchdowns on 133 carries. Kamara has added 413 yards and another score on 26 receptions.
The Panthers allow the second-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs. Kamara was suspended in Week 2 when these teams played each other. backup quarterback Taysom Hill was the team’s leading rusher, with 75 yards on nine carries. Fourth-string running back Tony Jones Jr. had two touchdowns and 34 yards on 12 carries. Carolina allowed 128 yards and two touchdowns on the ground in Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Joe Mixon vs. Indianapolis Colts
Mixon finished as the overall RB2 in half-PPR scoring after an overtime win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had 68 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries and added 49 yards on six receptions from quarterback Jake Browning. Mixon goes into Week 14 as the RB8.
Indianapolis escaped with an overtime win against the Tennessee Titans. Derrick Henry balled out and had 102 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Backup RB Tyjae Spears had 75 yards on 16 carries. Both RBs combined for 31 yards and five receptions on eight targets. They’re allowing the fourth-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs.
