How can the Seahawks clinch a playoff spot in Week 17?

We discuss the scenarios that could see the Seattle Seahawks clinching a playoff spot in Week 17.

The Seattle Seahawks have quietly hung around the NFC playoff picture even as things went south for a stretch. The Seahawks lost four straight games that hurt their tiebreaker options and shot them down the playoff standings. However, two straight 20-17 wins over the Eagles and Titans have moved them back into the positive side of the wild card standings.

The Seahawks are 8-7 and sitting in seventh place in the NFC coming out of Week 16. They host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17 and have their first clinching scenario of the season. It’s not a likely one, but they’re moving closer to securing a playoff berth for the second straight season.

Result: The Seahawks lost to the Steelers and have to win in Week 18 to clinch a wild card berth.

  • SEA win + GB-MIN tie

The Seahawks are a 3.5-point favorite over the Steelers at DraftKings Sportsbook. Pittsburgh is coming off an impressive win over the Cincinnati Bengals, but they face some questions at the quarterback position. This is a very winnable game for Seattle.

However, the Seahawks also need a tie when the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings face off on Sunday Night Football to close out Week 17. There have been no ties this season. We’ve seen at least one tie in each season dating back to 2018, and two last year. It’s unlikely this game finishes with a tie result, but crazier things have happened. The Vikings are a 1.5-point home favorite.
