UCLA (6-6) has not had the most auspicious start to their 2023-24 season. The Bruins went on a four-game losing streak that included two home losses before bouncing back with a win on the road against Oregon State. Mick Cronin’s squad ranks down at 85th at KenPom — a far cry from last season’s No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They don’t crack the top 100 in adjusted offensive efficiency, but rank 44th in adjusted defensive efficiency.
The Bruins are led by freshman guard Sebastian Mack with 14.5 points per game and sophomore forward Adem Bona with 6.6 rebounds per game. They have struggled offensively this season, averaging just 67.1 points per game (283rd in the nation). Their defense has been their saving grace, allowing just 63.3 points per game (16th in the nation).
Oregon (9-3) is fresh off a win over USC. The Ducks’ losses have come against Syracuse, Alabama, and Santa Clara this season. They rank 47th at KenPom and 48th in adjusted offensive efficiency. Led by Jermaine Cousinard, the Ducks average 79.3 points per game, placing them at 53rd in the nation.
The Ducks have not lost at home this season, despite losing two of their starters to injuries that required surgery — last year’s top scorer, N’Faly Dante, is out with a leg injury, and center Nate Bittle is out with a wrist injury. The Ducks’ rebounding stats have taken a hit as a result of these injuries.
UCLA is struggling too much to keep this one close on the road. Oregon covers this spread for their 10th win of the season.
