If you’ve found yourself in need of a fill-in for the tight end spot in your fantasy football league this season, Cade Otton of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has no doubt crossed your mind. He’s put together one big game and a string of solid TE2 outings so far this season. This week, Otton and the Bucs will face the Carolina Panthers, so let’s take a look at whether or not he’s a viable option in your lineup for Week 13.
Fantasy Football analysis: Buccaneers TE Cade Otton
Otton caught four passes on four targets for 45 yards last week against Indianapolis. It was very nearly identical to his game the week before, when he caught four passes for 49 yards. That’s not a ton of points, though. And this week’s matchup doesn’t bode well.
Despite their myriad problems, the Panthers have actually been pretty good against tight ends. They’ve allowed the ninth-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends, and just three touchdowns to the position all season.
Start or sit in Week 13 PPR leagues?
Otton has a little more appeal in PPR formats where you can at least get a little something extra for the catches, despite the less-than-impressive production numbers. However, I recommend sitting him in leagues with 12 or fewer teams, unless you’re desperate for help this week. In larger leagues, he’s a slightly better this week at a thin position.
Start or sit in Week 13 standard leagues?
Sit in him standard leagues. The production just hasn’t been there lately, and it’s likely going to be harder to come by against the Panthers this week. There’s not much touchdown upside here either. Otton hasn’t scored in three weeks, and he’s only found paydirt in two games this season.
Player(s) you would start ahead of Cade Otton
Juwan Johnson of the Saints has a very favorable matchup against the Lions this week, and he’s a much better option than Otton. Streaming king Logan Thomas is another tight end who’s a better start this week against a Dolphins team allowing lots of points to the position.
