One of the best new traditions of bowl season continued with the finale Wednesday’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl. From Gatorade baths and Cheez-It baths was born the grossest victory bath yet — the mayonnaise bath, which is now in its third year of being bestowed upon the winning head coach of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.
Mack Brown avoided getting the mayo once again in his second appearance in the bowl — is he losing on purpose at this point? Both West Virginia head coach Neal Brown and athletic director Wren Baker told the press ahead of the bowl that they would accept the mayo bath. With the Mountaineers’ ninth win of the season comes a shower of the condiment.
You can watch the video of Neal Brown taking the mayo bath following the 30-10 victory over the Tar Heels on Wednesday night below:
Shane Beamer became the first head coach to get mayo-ed in 2021 after leading South Carolina to a win over North Carolina. It didn’t go so smoothly — the mayo dumpers clipped Beamer’s head with the bucket while lifting it over him.
Maryland’s Mike Locksley was mayo-ed in 2022 after a win over NC State in a statement giant hat that protected him from much of the condiment.
