The Buffalo Bills beat the Los Angeles Chargers 24-22 in Week 16. Buffalo was the better team on paper but struggled on the road, with their go-ahead field goal coming with 28 seconds left in the game. Let’s take a look at how this result affects the AFC playoff picture.

Buffalo’s win moves them to 9-6 and in second place in the AFC East. They move up to the No. 6 seed in the AFC playoff picture, jumping the Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans. If either of those teams wins their respective games on Sunday, they will move ahead of Buffalo, dropping the Bills back down to No. 8, where they began the week. The Bills will host the New England Patriots next week before going on the road for a showdown with the Miami Dolphins in Week 18.

The loss is big for the Chargers as they have been eliminated from playoff contention and are now 5-10 with two games to go. They wrap up their season, going on the road to take on the Denver Broncos in Week 17 and then hosting the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 18. Los Angeles’ highlight of its offseason will be deciding whether or not to re-sign running back Austin Ekeler and then conducting a head coaching search.
