The Detroit Lions made a statement in Week 15 when they beat the Denver Broncos 42-17. The Broncos were only 7-6 at the time, but they had won six of their past seven and were closing in on the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs. However, Jared Goff threw five touchdown passes and they shut down the Broncos to secure the victory.
Detroit improved to 10-4 with the win and look to build off that momentum in Week 16 when they travel to face the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions have alternated wins and losses the past month, but are in position to punch their playoff ticket in Week 16.
UPDATE: The Lions beat the Vikings to clinch the NFC North title.
Detroit Lions playoff clinching scenarios - Week 16
- Clinches NFC North with win or tie
- Clinches playoff berth with Rams loss/tie or Seahawks loss/tie
The can end things pretty simply on Sunday morning. They’re a field goal road favorite against the Vikings, but if they get the victory, they clinch the division. However, they can also clinch a playoff berth before they even step on the field. The Los Angeles Rams host the New Orleans Saints as a four-point favorite on Thursday Night Football. If the Rams win, the Lions can also clinch when the Seattle Seahawks travel to face the Tennessee Titans. If Seattle loses as a 2.5-point favorite, Detroit punches their ticket.
