The Atlanta Falcons should probably just be renamed the “Cardiac Birds” this season. The Falcons haven’t played in a game decided by double-digit points in nine straight. So it’s very difficult to figure out if the Falcons are, in fact, not bad. Or if Atlanta is awful and surviving through an equally awful division. Either way, Falcons fans enter Week 15 with plenty of rooting interest as they take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Let’s look at which teams Falcons fans should be pulling for.
Result: The Falcons lost to the Panthers 9-7 in Week 15 on a last-second field goal to drop to 6-8 on the season. With Saints and Bucs wins, the Falcons are now behind both teams in the NFC South division.
Giants vs. Saints
Result: The Saints beat the Giants 24-6 to move to 7-7 on the season and keep pace in the NFC South.
The Falcons are in second place in the division at 6-7, tied with the Saints and Bucs. Atlanta has the tiebreaker over New Orleans based on head-to-head winning percentage. The Giants are right behind the Saints in the standings at 5-8 but still have a long-shot to make the postseason. But that means New York should continue to play competitive football this week. The Saints are favored by 6.0 points on the spread on DraftKings Sportsbook at home.
Packers vs. Bucs
Result: The Bucs beat the Packers 34-20 to improve to 7-7 on the season to stay in first place in the NFC South.
The objective for the Falcons should be to win the NFC South and get a first-round home game in the playoffs. Not root for a Wild Card spot. So the Falcons need the Packers to beat the Bucs this week. Tampa Bay is in first place and the Falcons should take care of business vs. Carolina. If that’s the case, the Falcons would have a good shot of taking over first place after Week 15 and control their own destiny a bit. Green Bay is 3.5-point favorites at home on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Commanders vs. Rams
Result: The Rams beat the Commanders 28-20 to go 7-7 on the season. The Falcons need a lot of help after losing today, and this did not help.
The Falcons wouldn’t be mad if the Rams and Seahawks both lost this week. Los Angeles takes on the Commanders at home and are relatively heavy favorites at 6.5 points on the spread. If the Seahawks were to lose to the Eagles on MNF, the Falcons would be in position to jump them with a win given their division and conference records. The Rams will be more difficult to jump if you’re the Falcons, so the Commanders pulling off an upset would be pretty huge if ATL can’t win the division.
