NFL playoff picture: Who to root for in Week 15 if you are a New York Giants fan

Week 15 is here and the New York Giants have somehow climbed back into the playoff picture. Who should Giants fans root for to help their chances this weekend?

The New York Giants are on a three-game winning streak heading into Week 15 and the Tommy DeVito experience has been a wild one. The Giants have claimed wins over the Commanders, Patriots, and Packers, and suddenly find themselves back in the playoff race.

The Giants looked like a team headed toward a top five draft pick, but the win streak has them one game back of the final wild card spot. Five teams are tied at 6-7 and the Giants sit right behind them at 5-8. One of those teams is the New Orleans Saints, and New York is traveling to face them in Week 15. The Giants are a six-point underdog at DraftKings Sportsbook, but a win over the Saints would give them a head-to-head tiebreaker and push them higher up the standings.

New York will need a lot of help if they’re going to make the playoffs. This weekend, there are several games Giants fans will need to pay attention to as the team looks to improve its chances of a playoff berth.

Result: The Giants fell to the Saints 24-6 in Week 15 to drop to 5-9 on the season.

Vikings vs. Bengals

Result: The Vikings lost in overtime to the Bengals after blowing a 17-3 lead. The Giants can cut the lead to one game with a win on Sunday.

The Vikings are two games up on the Giants with four games to go, and also have a two-game lead in the conference record tiebreaker. It’s unlikely the Giants get ahead of Minnesota, but that shouldn’t stop Giants fans from rooting for the Bengals. Cincinnati is a 3.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Buccaneers vs. Packers

Result: The Bucs beat the Packers 34-20 in Week 15 to remain in first place in the NFC South division.

Tampa Bay and Green Bay are both 6-7, although the Bucs have the division lead, which moves them up to the No. 4 seed. The Packers currently hold the No. 7 seed. New York has the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Packers and sit half a game back of the Bucs for the conference record tiebreaker. If the Bucs win, the Giants would move past the Packers. If the Packers win, the Giants would move past the Bucs. I’d lean rooting for the Bucs this week because they have a tough home game against the Jaguars next week that would net them another loss and drop them even with the Giants.

Green Bay is a 3.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Falcons vs. Panthers

Result: The Falcons fell to the Panthers 9-7 and are down to 6-8 on the season. Carolina won on a last-second field goal.

This one is straight forward. The Panthers have been eliminated from playoff contention and a Falcons win coupled with a Giants win moves New York above Atlanta in the playoff standings.

Atlanta is a field goal favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Commanders vs. Rams

Result: The Rams beat the Commanders 28-20 to go 7-7. This isn’t the result Giants fans wanted, but it probably doesn’t matter in the grand scheme after their team fell to 5-9 this week.

The Giants and Rams face off in Week 17, so the tiebreaker will be cleared up then. But in the meantime, if the Rams lose and the Giants win, New York would move ahead of LA in the playoff standings.

LA is a 6.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook.

Eagles vs. Seahawks

Philadelphia currently holds the top wild card berth and New York is mathematically eliminated from equaling their record. Seattle is in ninth place and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over New York. The Giants needs to see the Seahawks lose at least two games the rest of the way to have a chance at passing them.

Philadelphia is a field goal favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook.
