The No. 1 Arizona Wildcats face the No. 3 Purdue Boilermakers in a much-anticipated matchup on Saturday, December 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET from Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis and the game will be streamed on Peacock.
Arizona (8-0) has yet to lose a game this season, but they haven’t faced a challenge this major quite yet. The Wildcats have notched ranked wins over Wisconsin and Duke this season. The Wildcats rank second overall at KenPom and land at sixth in adjusted offensive efficiency and second in adjusted defensive efficiency.
The Wildcats are led by Caleb Love, who transferred to Arizona from North Carolina. Love averages 14.1 points per game, and each of the four other starters average over 12 points per game. The team leads the nation in points scored, averaging 94 points per game. They shoot 51.5% from the field, ranking seventh in the nation, and grab 46.4 rebounds per game, ranking first in the nation.
Purdue (9-1) has defeated Gonzaga, Tennessee, and Marquette already this season. Their strength of record is among the best in the nation with those wins. The Boilermakers are led by Zach Edey, who averages 24.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Purdue ranks fourth overall and in adjusted offensive efficiency at KenPom, and eighth in adjusted defensive efficiency.
No other starter on Purdue’s roster comes near Edey’s averages — the next-highest scorer and rebounder, Braden Smith, averages 13.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Boilermakers lean heavily on Edey, while Arizona’s offensive strategy could not be more different.
This top-five matchup is sure to be one of the best games of the regular season, and Arizona covers here. The depth of their scoring roster is completely unmatched by the one-man show at Purdue, and the Boilermakers won’t be able to contain the highest-scoring and highest-rebounding team in the nation.
