‘Tis the season for transfer portal announcement and California Golden Bears running back Jaydn Ott broke several hearts in Berkeley when he announced that he was entering the portal this morning.

Oh wait, I should’ve watched the entire video instead of exiting at the 38 second mark?

Well played young man. Well played. Considering how impactful he’s been for the program the past two years, I would be extremely bummed if I were a Cal fan waking up to the news that our star running back was leaving.

After an impactful freshman campaign in 2022, Ott exploded as a sophomore this season, leading the Pac-12 in rushing with 1,260 yards and 11 touchdowns. With Cal joining the ACC next season in the aftermath of the Pac-12’s collapse, the Norco, CA, native has an opportunity to gain more national notoriety with the Golden Bears having scheduled matchups against the likes of Auburn, Miami, and Florida State. A strong campaign could make him one of the more well positioned running backs heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.

Ott and currently in Shreveport, where they will battle Texas Tech in Saturday’s Independence Bowl. This has the chance to quietly be one of the more entertaining matchups this bowl season with Ott going up against dynamic Red Raiders running back Tahj Brooks.
