Magic vs. Celtics pick against the spread, over/under for Friday, December 15

We go over some of the best betting options for Friday’s matchup between the Magic and Celtics.

Boston Celtics v Orlando Magic

Update: Brown is available to play for the Celtics, and that has made them 5-point favorites with the total at 225. I still like Orlando +5 in this spot, and I’ll still take the under on the total which hasn’t moved despite the injury news.

Update: The Celtics have released their first injury report. Brown is questionable with an ankle injury, while Porzingis has been listed as doubtful. Al Horford and Luke Kornet have been ruled out. The line is now Celtics -4.5 and the total comes in at 224.5. I still like the Magic +4.5 and the under on the total.

Two of the top teams in the Eastern Conference standings will face off Friday evening when the Orlando Magic (16-7) visit the Boston Celtics (18-5). The Magic have won two games in a row and eight of their last 10, while the Celtics enter the second night of a back-to-back set as winners of three straight. This is the second meeting between these teams this season, with the Magic grabbing the first game 113-96.

Markelle Fultz is questionable for Orlando with a knee injury, while Wendell Carter Jr. remains out. The Celtics haven’t released an official injury report yet, but the statuses of Jaylen Brown (ankle) and Kristaps Porzingis (calf) are worth monitoring.

The Celtics are 6-point favorites according to DraftKings Sportsbook, with the total coming in at 224.5. Boston is -230 on the moneyline while Orlando is +190.

Magic vs. Celtics, 7:30 p.m. ET

Pick ATS: Magic +6

Orlando has become the best team against the number this season after Brooklyn’s loss last night with a 17-6 ATS mark. The Magic are especially good as the underdog with a 9-5 ATS mark, and have a 3-2 ATS record with a rest advantage. On the flip side, the Celtics are 1-1 ATS with a rest disadvantage and 1-1 ATS on the second night of a back-to-back set.

Even though Boston hasn’t lost a home game all season, I’ll take the Magic to at least keep this close and cover the six-point spread. This number will close if Brown or Porzingis don’t suit up for injury management.

Over/Under: Under 224.5

These are two of the best defensive teams in the league this season. The Magic rank third in defensive rating, while the Celtics are right behind them in fourth. Furthermore, Orlando matches up well position for position with Boston’s lineup, capable of limiting an offense that has put up 121.2 points per game in the last five contests.

These teams haven’t been hitting overs at a high rate coming into this game. Boston is 11-12 to the over and Orlando is 11-11-1 to the over. I like the under to hit tonight.
