We’ve got a showdown between two of the hottest teams in the Western Conference Thursday when the Minnesota Timberwolves (17-5) face off against the Dallas Mavericks (15-8). The Timberwolves are coming off a loss but have won eight of their last 10 games, while the Mavericks are riding a four-game winning streak after most recently toppling the In-Season Tournament champions Lakers at home. This is the first meeting between these teams this season.
Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels are both listed as questionable for the Timberwolves. Tim Hardaway Jr. is probable for Dallas, while Derrick Jones Jr. and Seth Curry are questionable. Kyrie Irving remains sidelined with a heel contusion.
The Mavericks are 1.5-point favorites according to DraftKings Sportsbook, with the total coming in at 230.5. Dallas is -122 on the moneyline while Minnesota is +102.
Timberwolves vs. Mavericks, 8:30 p.m. ET
Pick ATS: Mavericks -1.5
Minnesota is 11-9-2 ATS this season, while Dallas checks in at 13-10. The Mavericks are just 5-6 ATS as the home team, while the Timberwolves are just 4-7 ATS on the road. The Timberwolves have gone 7-4 as the road team this season so they’re more than capable of winning this game, especially if Edwards is able to return from his hip injury.
The Mavericks have covered the spread in each of their last four games, two of which came at home. Even with Irving out, they are getting good contributions from role players like Dante Exum and Hardaway Jr. This line could become a true pick ‘em if Edwards does end up playing, but I like the Mavericks to keep their winning ways going at home tonight.
Over/Under: Over 230.5
Dallas is one of the more over-friendly teams in the league, going 17-6 to the over this season. The Mavericks have gone over their totals in each of the last five games. The Timberwolves are 12-10 to the over this season, and have gone over the total in three of their last four games. Even though Minnesota has the best defensive rating this season, I like the current trend on overs to continue for both teams. Take the points tonight.
