It has been a shaky start to the 2023-24 season for the Maryland Terrapins and they look to get their record to 6-4 on Tuesday when they host the Alcorn State Braves.

Maryland’s issues have mostly been on the offensive end with the team entering Monday 219th in the nation in points scored on a per possession basis with their 22.4% 3-point shooting being the third-worst percentage in the country.
How rough Maryland’s 3-point shooting is will be put to the test as they face an Alcorn State defense that ranks 359th in the country in points allowed per possession and are allowing opponents to make 38.4% of their 3-point shots, which 342nd in the country.
As for the Alcorn State offense, the team is 304th in the country in points scored on a per possession basis with fewer than 70 points scored in four of their past five games, and stylistically is at a disadvantage on Tuesday.
While Maryland’s 3-point shooting on offense has been offline, they’ve denied their opponents from making 3-pointers as only 21.2% of the points Maryland allows comes from made 3-pointers, which is the 14th-lowest percentage in the country.
The lack of clean looks from the outside puts Alcorn State at a big disadvantage as the team is 344th in the country in 2-point field goal shooting percentage and are 340th in rebound rate.
Alcorn State has also allowed the opponents they’ve played to dictate the tempo of the game, entering Monday, ranking 123rd in the country in total possessions per game but in their past three games have played at a rate of four possessions per game fewer than their current season average.
With Maryland 218th in the country in possessions per game, Tuesday sets up for a slower tempo game that will lack the outside shooting needed for the total to go over.
