The Robert Morris Colonials are off to a rough 1-7 start to the season against Division I competition and look to get their season back on track when they host the Delaware Blue Hens on Monday.
Delaware Blue Hens (-5.5, 148.5) vs. Robert Morris Colonials
Part of the reason for Robert Morris’ sluggish start is absences as each of their top four scorers have missed at least one game this season, but all four suited upIn the team’s most recent game against Canisius and should be good to go on Monday.
The lack of consistency with starting guards in and out of the lineup is also a big reason the team entered Sunday 304th in the nation’s top in turnovers per possession and have been out of rhythm shooting from 3-point range.
Out of 362 Division I teams, Robert Morris is 313th in the country in 3-point shooting percentage, but should improve that number against a Delaware defense that ranks 161st nationally in opponent 3-point shooting percentage and 235th in turnovers forced on a per possession basis.
Additionally, the Delaware defense has regressed since a start to the season that saw the Blue Hens surrender 68 points or fewer in each of their first four games of the season. Since that start, Delaware has allowed at least 74 points in each of their last four games and at least 80 points in three of those games.
The defensive woes have led to the Blue Hens entering Monday in a funk of their own with losses in three of their last four games and in a tight game, their inability to make free throws could be the difference.
The Colonials are 93rd in the country in turnovers forced per play on defense and commit a foul on 24.1% of defensive plays, which ranks 285th in the country.
With the Delaware defense struggling and Robert Morris at full strength after having much of their guard rotation in and out of the lineup to start the season, Robert Morris will surprise Delaware as a home underdog on Monday.
