Update: Booker has returned to Wednesday’s contest and will play through the ankle injury. He’s up to six points, three assists and two rebounds but is struggling to get his shot going. He’s 1-9 from the floor and 0-3 from behind the arc.
Phoenix Suns star guard Devin Booker suffered an ankle injury Wednesday against the Toronto Raptors and went to the locker room for further evaluation. Booker limped to the bench after initially sustaining the injury, but the team has gone back to get a further evaluation.
This is actually Booker’s second trip to the locker room in this game, although the first one was likely just minor soreness. The guard had ankle and calf problems earlier in the season, missing eight games during the early part of the 2023-24 season. He’s been playing well since his return to the court though, averaging 28.9 points and 8.4 assists per game on 47.5/38.7/90 shooting splits.
If Booker is unable to return to this game, look for Kevin Durant to become the focal point of this offense. Durant is back after missing a few contests with a foot injury. Bradley Beal remains out for the Suns, which means Eric Gordon would likely step up in the backcourt in Booker’s absence. Jordan Goodwin is another filler option for the Suns, especially since Grayson Allen is also out for the time being.
The Suns have yet to see the trio of Booker, Durant and Beal on the floor together, and that’ll continue to be the case if Booker’s ankle injury is serious. We’ll see if the guard is able to return to Wednesday’s game with Phoenix’s seven-game winning streak on the line.
