Live results: Charlo defeats Benavidez by way of unanimous decision (98-92, 99-91, 100-90)

The co-main event slot on the David Benavidez-Demetrius Andrade PPV card will see popular Houston boxer and former WBC middleweight champion and IBF super welterweight champion Jemall Charlo (32-0, 22 KOs) making his return to the ring after a two-and-a-half-year layoff to take on Jose Benavidez Jr. (28-2-1, 19 KOs) in a non-title 10-round middleweight bout.

There is a belief that this card could be setting up a Charlo-David Benavidez fight in the summer of 2024. David Benavidez, the younger brother of Jose Benavidez Jr., is currently the WBC super middleweight champion.

Showtime PPV will have the full broadcast of the card beginning at 8 p.m. ET with the Charlo-Benavidez fight expected to start around 10 p.m. ET. The cost for the card is $75.

Charlo, 33, remains one of the bigger stars in boxing despite his recent ring inactivity. He won his first title, the IBF super welterweight title with a third-round knockout over Cornelius Bundrage in September 2015. He defended that title three times before moving up to middleweight where he won the WBC middleweight title from Hugo Centeno Jr. on April 21, 2018. Charlo defended that title six times until he suffered and injury and later a “serious mental health episode” according to WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman. These events have kept Charlo from the ring for 28 monts.

Benavidez Jr., a 31-year-old from Los Angeles, is the older brother of current WBC super middleweight champion David Benavidez. The older Benavidez won his first 27 professional fights before running into Terence Crawford and suffering a 12-round TKO in a fight for Crawford’s WBC welterweight title. Since then Benavidez has also lost to Danny Garcia and is now moving up in weight hoping to pull an upset on Charlo.

Charlo comes into the bout as the favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook. He is a -900 favorite while Benavidez Jr. is a +550 underdog.
