It’s Turkey Day in the NFL, and the annual tradition rolls on when the Green Bay Packers (4-6) hit the road to square off against the Detroit Lions (8-2) in an NFC North showdown. The Lions are running away with the division, but the Packers have an outside shot at the playoffs, so Thursday is almost a must-win for them. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET from Ford Field in Detroit, MI.
NFL DFS Showdown strategy: Packers vs. Lions
Amon-Ra St. Brown , WR , Detroit Lions ($8,500)
St. Brown has been on a tear of late. The star WR has had 100-yard receiving in six of the nine games that he’s played in this season. He has five touchdowns on the season and has scored one in two straight games. There is a good chance that he scores one in this one, as he is the favorite target of QB Jared Goff.
Jahmyr Gibbs, RB , Detroit Lions ($6,800)
Gibbs started the year slow but has seen an increased workload since Week 7 when he started in place of David Montgomery. He has scored at least one touchdown in four straight games. Gibbs is seeing about 14-15 touches with Montgomery back, but he is still making the most of his touches. He has a 5.2-yard per-carry average this season.
Romeo Doubs, WR , Green Bay Packers ($5,000)
Doubs has emerged as a go-to threat for Packers QB Jordan Love. He has caught touchdown backs in two straight games and seven on the season. Doubs has 38 receptions on the year for 396 yards. He has a good shot to score another one this week against a Detroit Lions secondary that is reeling at the moment.
Jameson Williams, Wr, Detroit Lions ($3,400)
Williams started the year with a suspension and took awhile to get going. He struggled with drops and missing the football. However, over the past two weeks, he has seen a career-high in snaps, and the coaching staff feels they can trust him. He had a touchdown called back against the Los Angeles Chargers and scored one against the Chicago Bears last week. A breakout is coming for Williams, and this may be the week.
Players to Avoid
AJ Dillon , RB , Green Bay Packers ($5,400)
Dillon is listed as questionable, but if he can go, he will get the bulk of the carries, with Aaron Jones listed as doubtful for the game. He is averaging 3.5 yards per carry on the season and has yet to eclipse over 100 total yards in a game this season. The Lions also rank fifth in the league against the run.
Christian Watson, WR , Green Bay Packers ($4,300)
Watson has been a huge disappointment this season. He ended the 2022 season looking like their next Wr.1 of the future, but has been nowhere close this season. After missing the first few games of the season with an injury, he has had one game where he made an impact, and it was his second game of the year with 91 receiving yards. Since that game, his highest receiving total has been 37 yards. Even against a shaky secondary, Watson doesn’t seem like a good choice to start.
