For the second time in as many days, we have a Game 7 with a trip to the World Series on the line. The Arizona Diamondbacks handed the Philadelphia Phillies their first home loss of this postseason at the best possible time, leading Game 6 wire-to-wire to stave off elimination and reach the verge of one of the most unlikely pennant runs in modern baseball history. They’ll send rookie Brandon Pfaadt (3-9, 5.72 ERA) to the mound to try and finish the job on Tuesday night, while Philly turns to lefty Ranger Suarez (4-6, 4.18). First pitch of this do-or-die matchup from Citizens Bank Park is set for 8:07 p.m. ET.
The D-backs just keep finding ways to stay alive. This team has defied the odds time and again this October, and they did it again in Game 6, riding some early offense and a great performance from Merrill Kelly to another win when nobody was expecting it. Pfaadt was sensational in Arizona’s Game 3 win last week, and the Snakes should have just about everybody in the bullpen available — plus potentially Zac Gallen on three days’ rest — after a relatively low-stress game last night. Offense remains a question mark, but count this team out at your own risk.
Philly headed back home with all the confidence in the world, seemingly invincible at Citizens Bank Park — only to come out flat and slog through another disappointing offensive performance from a lineup that’s seemingly lost its way. Suarez has been a star all postseason, and Game 3 was no different, with 5.1 shutout innings in a no-decision. They, too, will have the whole pitching staff at their disposal, but at this point the main concern should be where that offense has gone and how they can get back on track with their season on the line.
The Phillies enter as -166 favorites on the moneyline at DraftKings Sportsbook, with Arizona at +140. The run total is set at 8.5.
