Update 11:07 p.m. ET Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez wins by unanimous decision: 118-109, 117-110, 114-113

The boxing world will be focused on Canelo Álvarez and Gennady Golovkin on Saturday night, but the main card features another notable title match just ahead of the main event. WBC junior bantamweight champ Jesse Rodriguez makes his second title defense when he faces Israel González. The bout should get started in the 10 p.m. ET hour and will air as part of the DAZN PPV.

Rodriguez is 16-0 and coming off a June victory over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in which he secured an eighth round stoppage to defend his belt. González is 25-4-1 and has a pair of eight-round unanimous decision wins this year over Misael Gracia Acevedo and Samuel Gutierrez Hernandez. Prior to that he was 1-1-1, with the loss and draw coming in a pair of title fights.

Rodriguez comes into the bout as the favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook. He is a -1600 favorite while González is a +750 underdog. The favored fight outcome is a Rodriguez stoppage at -300 followed by a Rodriguez decision at +275. A González stoppage is +1200 and a González decision is +2000.

We’ll be providing live round-by-round updates until a winner is determined.

Jesse Rodriguez vs. Israel González round-by-round results

Round 1: Rodriguez 10-9

Plenty of good right hands from the favorite, who seems to have the heavier hands as well.

Round 2: Gonzalez 10-9

Gonzalez decides to go to the body and is rewarded. Much better power inside from the underdog here.

Round 3: Gonzalez 10-9

A closer round, but more to the body from Gonzalez. Plenty more activity from him as well.

Round 4: Rodriguez 10-9

Some quality right hands from Rodriguez, including one to the body that scored late in the round.

Round 5: Rodriguez 10-9

A close round with some decent body shots by Gonzalez, but the overall activity from Rodriguez is better.

Round 6: 10-9 Rodriguez

The power punches are finding the range, including an upper cut and some late body shots in the round.

Round 7: 10-9 Rodriguez

Just more activity and polish from the undefeated fighter, who is controlling most exchanges with his hand speed and is displaying more power.

Round 8: 10-8 Gonzalez

An inadvertent clash of heads about a minute into the round has no effect, but a low blow does and a point is deducted from Rodriguez with :14 to go! More activity to the body from Gonzalez who is active and moving forward when he can find the range.

Round 9: 10-9 Rodriguez

The champ continues to come forward and establish himself as the faster fighter inside with his right hand. Both fighters show flurries but somehow manage to hang in there.

Round 10: 10-9 Rodriguez

More dominance from Rodriguez, who defends what comes at him with his arms, and lands a much higher percentage of what he throws.

Round 11: 10-9 Rodriguez

Another low blow but it’s not called! That was completely the difference in the round as it would have been 9-9 without it.

Round 12: 10-9 Rodriguez

Bam, we got a winner. Not much doubt on the scorecards, as the champion will move to 17-0 following another round where he showed more power and ring generalship.
