The 2022 MLB All-Star Game will take place at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday, July 19. Prior to the ASG, we’ll get the Home Run Derby on Monday. New York Mets 1B Pete Alonso is the reigning two-time champion with 2020 being canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There’s a chance we see Alonso return to defend his title and go for the three-peat, something that has never been done in MLB history. Here we’re going to track the latest news and rumors for who will participate in the HR Derby in 2022.

July 14 - Corey Seager was named as a replacement for George Springer on the AL All-Star Game roster and now he’s also going to compete in the HR derby. So here’s an updated look at the field:

That makes eight participants so it looks like we’ve got our complete field for the even next Monday.
July 13 - Jose Ramirez is in the Home Run Derby, and that means we’ve got seven confirmed participants for this year’s event.
Cleveland Guardians third baseman José Ramírez accepted an invitation to the Home Run Derby and is the seventh confirmed member of the field, sources tell ESPN. He joins Pete Alonso, Juan Soto, Ronald Acuña Jr., Albert Pujols, Kyle Schwarber and Julio Rodríguez. One spot left.

July 13 - We’ve got yet another confirmed participant in the Home Run Derby this year with Mariners breakout star Julio Rodriguez joining the party.
Julio Rodríguez just posted an announcement on Instagram that he will be participating in the Home Run Derby.

July 11 - Juan Soto is expected to participate in this year’s Derby. A year ago, he upset Shohei Ohtani in double overtime but then lost in the semifinals to eventual champ Pete Alonso.

July 11 - This year’s Home Run Derby just got turned up to 11. St. Louis Cardinals legend Albert Pujols is entering the event, joining Pete Alonso and Ronald Acuna Jr. as participants we know of so far.

July 11 - Pete Alonso is back in the Home Run Derby and will be going for a three-peat. We’ll see if he can become the first player ever to win three straight competitions. Ken Griffey Jr. is the only player to win three Home Run Derby events in his career. Maybe Alonso can join him.

July 10 — Giancarlo Stanton is “open” to participating in the HR Derby at Dodger Stadium this year. He was voted an All-Star starter for the AL and will be in the outfield with teammate Aaron Judge, who likely won’t be in the derby.
