Houston-SMU sets NCAA record for points in a game

The FBS scoring record for a game with no overtime was set on on Saturday night, as the SMU Mustangs defeated the Houston Cougars 77-63 in one of the wildest college football games in history.

Some of the ridiculous stats so far:

  • SMU quarterback Tanner Mordecai went 22-27 with 297 yards passing in the first half, with 7 TD passes.
  • Moredcai finished 28-37 for 379 yards and nine touchdowns without an interception.
  • Both teams have combined for 801 yards of offense in the first 30 minutes of football.
  • Both teams have combined for 1352 yards of offense.
  • Houston averaged 10 yards per play, but also had three interceptions from quarterback Clayton Tune to go with his seven touchdowns. SMU because of the generous field position has just a mere 8.2 yards per play

SMU closed as a 3.5-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook ... and the total was 66. That got passed with 5:34 left in the second quarter.
