The Seattle Mariners’ postseason magic took a significant hit on Tuesday evening. The Houston Astros came back from a 7-3 deficit and claimed Game 1 of the American League Division Series on a walk-off home run courtesy of Yordan Álvarez.

The Mariners jumped on the Astros early and often in Game 1. Julio Rodriguez led the way with a double and triple, and Seattle found itself up 6-2 after four innings. Houston nipped away where they could, but it looked like this was going to be Seattle’s day.
However, Houston erupted in the final two innings. Alex Bregman hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to cut Seattle’s lead to 7-5. In the ninth, pinch-hitter David Hensley got on board after he was hit by a pitch with one out. Jose Altuve struck out and then Jeremy Peña singled to center. Seattle brought in starter Robbie Ray who had started Saturday against Toronto. On an 0-1 count, Álvarez sent Astros fans home happy with his fourth career postseason home run.
