We celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the NBA with an all-day slate that begins at 12:30 p.m. ET and runs through the night. Around the NBA, teams will honor the late Dr. King and everything he stood for. With games going on all day, we should be getting plenty of injury news from start to finish. Let’s take a look at the injury report for Monday, Jan. 17 with 24 teams in action.
NBA Injury Report: January 17
New Orleans Pelicans vs. Boston Celtics
Marcus Smart (protocols) OUT
Robert Williams (personal) OUT
With both Smart and Williams out, Payton Pritchard ($3,700) becomes a strong value play at the guard position. The center rotation is spotty, but Al Horford ($5,000) and Grant Williams ($3,100) are most likely to get minutes with Williams out.
Charlotte Hornets vs. New York Knicks
Kelly Oubre Jr. (protocols) TBD
LaMelo Ball (illness) available
Update - Ball is available for the Hornets in Monday’s game, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll start or come off the bench.
Update - Ball isn’t starting for the Hornets, so it seems he’s going to come off the bench if he’s even available for the game. The point guard is trending in the wrong direction at the moment.
Update - Ball has been a late add to the injury report with a non-COVID illness. If he can’t go, Terry Rozier is the player to pick up in fantasy and DFS lineups.
With Oubre in protocols, look for Miles Bridges and Gordon Hayward to see extended minutes on the perimeter. Those guys will be strong fantasy and DFS plays for this contest.
Nerlens Noel (knee) OUT
Kemba Walker (knee) OUT
Both Noel and Walker have been ruled out. Alec Burks ($6,300) is likely going to get the start, while Immanuel Quickley ($4,100) is a value play. Mitchell Robinson ($5,100) is an excellent center option with Noel out.
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Washington Wizards
Matisse Thybulle (shoulder) OUT
Danny Green (hip) OUT
Bradley Beal (protocols) available
Beal is available for Monday’s game and will start. He’s a strong play in fantasy and DFS formats as usual. Spencer Dinwiddie and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope’s values in these contests decline with Beal’s availability.
Brooklyn Nets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers
Kevin Durant (knee) OUT
James Johnson (illness) OUT
Paul Millsap (personal) OUT
Nic Claxton (hamstring) OUT
LaMarcus Aldridge (foot) Available
Aldridge ($5,000) is available and offers solid value at his price in DFS lineups, but Day’Ron Sharpe ($4,200) could be the stronger play. Both big men have a higher ceiling due to Claxton being ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Lamar Stevens (knee) OUT
Chicago Bulls vs. Memphis Grizzlies
Lonzo Ball (knee) OUT
Zach LaVine (knee) OUT
Alex Caruso (conditioning) OUT
Indiana Pacers vs. Los Angeles Clippers
Myles Turner (foot) OUT
Malcolm Brogdon (Achilles) OUT
Brogdon and Turner are out for the Pacers. This means fantasy and DFS players should target Domantas Sabonis ($10,200), Caris LeVert ($8,100) and Chris Duarte ($4,200) as the top options to benefit from additional opportunities.
Luke Kennard (conditioning) OUT
Kennard has officially been ruled out, so those involved in fantasy and DFS can focus on guys like Reggie Jackson ($5,700), Nicolas Batum ($4,200) and Terrace Mann ($4,600) as LA’s key guys.
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Atlanta Hawks
Jrue Holiday (ankle) OUT
Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee) OUT
Clint Capela (ankle) OUT
Portland Trail Blazers vs. Orlando Magic
CJ Elleby (ankle) Doubtful
Cody Zeller (knee) OUT
Norman Powell (protocols) OUT
Larry Nance Jr. (knee) OUT
CJ McCollum (lung) Available
McCollum is expected to be on a minutes limit, so it’ll be tough to back him in fantasy and DFS formats. Powell has been ruled out, so Nassir Little will be the player to target as his replacement.
Wendell Carter Jr. (hamstring) OUT
Toronto Raptors vs. Miami Heat
Scottie Barnes (knee) available
Khem Birch (nose) OUT
Gary Trent Jr. (ankle) OUT
Update - Trent Jr. is out, so VanVleet and OG Anunoby are great plays for Monday’s slate.
Update - Birch is expected to miss 10-14 days, so he’s going to be sidelined for a while. He’s out Monday.
Barnes is good to go, so look for Pascal Siakam’s value to decline slightly. If Trent Jr. is ruled, Fred VanVleet remains a great fantasy and DFS option.
Kyle Lowry (personal) OUT
Bam Adebayo (thumb) available
Update - Adebayo is playing but those who have him in fantasy and DFS contests may want to wait a few games to see how the big man looks before plugging him back into the lineup.
Adebayo is on track to play against the Raptors Monday.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Dallas Mavericks
Phoenix Suns vs. San Antonio Spurs
Deandre Ayton (ankle) OUT
Cam Johnson (ankle) available
Update - Johnson is available, so Jae Crowder and Mikal Bridges lose some value in fantasy and DFS lineups.
Ayton has been ruled out, so look for JaVale McGee and Jalen Smith in the interior for Phoenix.
Utah Jazz vs. Los Angeles Lakers
Carmelo Anthony (back) OUT
Anthony has officially been ruled out, so look for Trevor Ariza ($2,000), Avery Bradley ($3,000) and Malik Monk ($7,200) as strong Showdown plays.
