There are 10 games in the NBA for Saturday’s slate, and those games come with a loaded injury report. The league’s COVID regulations have seen less players in the protocols but there is starting to be some re-entry. There have also been some bigger non-COVID injuries which could significantly impact the season. Here’s a look at Saturday’s injury report in the association.
NBA Injury Report: January 15
Scottie Barnes (knee) OUT
Gary Trent Jr. (ankle) OUT
Update - Barnes has been ruled out, which means Pascal Siakam and and Precious Achiuwa are going to see additional value in fantasy and DFS lineups.
Update - Trent Jr. has been ruled out, giving VanVleet some additional juice as a fantasy and DFS option.
Barnes has suited up despite carrying this designation, so he’s likely to play. Trent Jr. missed Friday’s game, so his status is worth watching. Fred VanVleet and OG Anunoby will be better DFS plays if Trent Jr. is ruled out.
Jrue Holiday (ankle) OUT
Holiday has already been ruled out, so Khris Middleton’s stock goes through the roof. Look for Jordan Nwora and Pat Connaughton to be sneaky good value plays as well.
Norman Powell (protocols) TBD
Powell remains in the protocols, so Nassir Little is the primary beneficiary here. Look for Little in fantasy and DFS lineups at a lower pricepoint.
Bradley Beal (protocols) OUT
Davis Bertans (ankle) OUT
Beal is out due to the league’s protocols. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Deni Avdija are suitable replacement options. Bertans is questionable, so managers backing Kyle Kuzma and Montrezl Harrell will be looking out for updates on his status.
Kemba Walker (knee) OUT
Nerlens Noel (knee) OUT
Update - Noel has been ruled out with a knee injury, so look for Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle to see additional minutes in the frontcourt.
Walker has already been ruled out and it looks like the knee continues to be a problem for the star guard.
Kevin Knox (trade) available
Clint Capela (ankle) OUT
Jalen Johnson (ankle) available
Danilo Gallinari (Achilles) available
Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee) OUT
Update - Capela and Bodganovic are out, while Gallinari and Johnson are in. Knox probably isn’t worth the investment in DFS formats, especially with Johnson active.
Update - Knox is available to make his team debut Saturday and he might have to, given Atlanta’s long injury report at the wing positions.
Update - So much for Bogdanovic being a potential value play. The guard is questionable with a knee injury, which is something he suffered earlier in the season. If Bogdanovic sits. Huerter becomes an even stronger DFS option.
Update - Capela has been downgraded to doubtful, while Gallinari is a new addition to the injury report with an Achilles issue. Kevin Huerter and Bogdan Bogdanovic are great DFS plays if Gallinari and Johnson cannot take the floor.
Knox’s status is up in the air after the trade, while Capela and Johnson are both dealing with ankle injuries. De’Andre Hunter has looked good in his return, and John Collins is the natural beneficiary of Capela’s absence.
Kyrie Irving (home game) OUT
LaMarcus Aldridge (foot) OUT
Nic Claxton (hamstring) OUT
Cam Thomas (ankle) questionable
Update - Claxton has been ruled out, so look for Blake Griffin and Day’Ron Sharpe as DFS plays. Thomas is questionable, which means Patty Mills remains a great play in fantasy and DFS formats.
We’ll see if the Nets push the envelope with Irving in the coming days. Patty Mills is a good guy to pick in place of Irving. Aldridge is out and Claxton has missed a few games, which means Blake Griffin will see an uptick in production. Day’Ron Sharpe has also been getting minutes, so he’s a value play as well.
Shake Milton (back) OUT
Matisse Thybulle (shoulder) OUT
Danny Green (hip) OUT
Joel Embiid (elbow) available
Update - Embiid is good to go for Saturday’s game, which means Drummond’s DFS value stays capped.
Update - Embiid has been added to the injury report, which means he’s clearly showing some discomfort with the elbow. He’s questionable, so any value plays in fantasy and DFS will have to wait for the final injury report. Andre Drummond is the top option at center if Embiid sits.
Milton has been finally ruled out indefinitely. Thybulle suffered the shoulder injury Friday, so updates on his status will likely come throughout the day.
Jimmy Butler (ankle) questionable
Butler played Friday, and there’s a chance the Heat give him this night off. With Bam Adebayo set to return Monday, Miami wants to avoid serious injuries with its other star.
There are no day-to-day injuries of note for either team.
Zach LaVine (knee) OUT
Alex Caruso (protocols) OUT
Lonzo Ball (knee) OUT
Update - Ball has been ruled out, so players like Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu will be popular DFS plays Saturday.
Update — LaVine is already out after leaving last night. Ball is on the injury report, also with a knee issue. That’s not good for the Bulls, who have lost three of the past four games. If Ball is out, Coby White is your go-to guy on the slate. He’ll be super chalky but shouldn’t have a difficult time returning value, especially if Smart is out again for Boston.
LaVine has already been ruled out after he sustained a non-contact knee injury Friday. The Bulls are getting a MRI done to determine how long he’ll be out. Caruso remains in the protocols and is out for at least a few more games.
Marcus Smart (thigh) questionable
Smart has been dealing with this thigh problem for some time. If he doesn’t suit up, fantasy and DFS players can back Dennis Schroder and Payton Pritchard as value options.
Luke Kennard (protocols) OUT
Update - Kennard remains out and it looks like Amir Coffey is going to start in his spot. Coffey could be a solid DFS play on value but look for Mann and Batum to be the primary contributors for LA in this one.
Kennard has to be cleared at some point. Managers can keep rolling with Terrace Mann and Reggie Jackson if Kennard remains in protocols.
Derrick White (protocols) available
Jakob Poeltl (back) OUT
Update - Poeltl has been ruled out officially, meaning Jock Landale could be a value play in fantasy and DFS formats.
Update - Good news for the Spurs, as White is available and Poeltl has been upgraded to a game-time decision.
Update - White and Poeltl are unlikely to play Saturday, so look for Murray and Vassell to be strong plays in the Spurs backcourt while Thaddeus Young could be an intriguing frontcourt play with Poeltl likely to sit.
It’s funny how White hasn’t cleared protocols yet, but Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson have. Look for Vassell and Dejounte Murray to be better plays if White can’t take the floor.
LeBron James (abdominal) available
Carmelo Anthony (back) OUT
Dwight Howard (knee) available
Update - Howard is going to play Saturday and is a nice value in DFS lineups given he’s LA’s only true center in this contest. He’ll have to contend with Nikola Jokic though, so that’s not a great matchup for Howard.
Update - Anthony is out and Howard is a game-time call. Monk remains a great value play in DFS, while James might be set to play at center if Howard gets ruled out.
James should suit up for this game, as he’s done for a while now with the abdominal injury. Anthony might sit another game, so Trevor Ariza and Malik Monk are the beneficiaries there. If Howard can’t play, look for James to play more minutes at center.
Will Barton (neck) available
Austin Rivers (illness) OUT
Update - Rivers is officially out for Saturday’s game, meaning Morris and Hyland get some additional value in fantasy and DFS lineups.
Update - Barton says he’ll play Saturday, and becomes a nice DFS target for the Nuggets.
Update - Rivers, a rotation player, is questionable with an illness. The Nuggets have had some rotten injury luck this season, so hopefully Rivers doesn’t miss the contest. If he does sit out, Monte Morris and Bones Hyland gain some value in fantasy and DFS formats.
This is the third different reason Barton has hit the injury report. He’s probable to suit up.
Wendell Carter Jr. (hamstring) OUT
Mo Bamba (toe) available
Update - Bamba is available to play off the bench in Saturday’s game.
Update - Carter Jr. has been ruled out for Saturday’s game, so it looks like Mo Wagner is going to get a start here.
Carter Jr. and Bamba have missed some games with their respective injuries. Mo Wagner remains a great DFS target if both are out Saturday.
Kristaps Porzingis (conditioning) available
Update - Porzingis is good to go for Saturday’s game and is a strong addition to fantasy and DFS lineups, as Orlando’s frontcourt is dealing with injury issues.
Update - Porzingis has cleared the league’s protocols and his status will now come down to conditioning. If he suits up, the Mavs big man is a strong play especially with Orlando having some injury issues in the frontcourt.
Porzingis should be close to clearing protocols soon, although some players have been in the system for much longer than expected.
