Luis Ortiz vs. Charles Martin round-by-round results
Round 1: 10-9 Martin
Ortiz actually won the round, but a big left hand put Ortiz down on the canvas and stayed on one knee for a couple seconds. Ortiz landed more, but the knockdown shifts the scoring.
Round 2: 10-9 Ortiz
While Ortiz doesn’t look totally steady on his feet, he also landed the bigger punches in the round. Martin came forward early, but started to back off as some wild swings went wanting.
Round 3: 10-9 Martin
The control of the ring went to Martin, who got in and out quick enough and held the ring generalship so far. It feels like a big punch can change everything from either fighter.
Round 4: 10-8 Martin
Another round Ortiz was winning, but a knockdown from a jab as the 10 seconds sticks begin to clap gives the round to the former IBF champion. A weird and wild fight so far, if not a ton of activity.
Round 5: 10-9 Ortiz
More activity and with some power from the Cuban. Ortiz still looks a bit unsteady on his feet, but he’s able to string together some combinations to the head and body. But it feels like one big shot from Martin would end this pretty quickly if he can find it.
Round 6: Luis Ortiz wins by TKO!
A huge left hand on the temple from Ortiz stunned Charles Martin early in the round, and he looked to be out on his feet for a couple seconds before being knocked down. But his hand and glove were caught in the rope! He might have stayed down, but referee Frank Santore Jr. had to free him so he could get back to his feet!
That was the signal for Ortiz to move in for the kill, with Ortiz putting him back on the canvas while falling forward. After an eight-count, Santore correctly ended the fight.
