What is the Brewers magic number to clinch the NL Central?

Milwaukee is ahead in the division and is closing in on clinching a playoff berth. We’re tracking how many more games they need to get ahead to wrap it up.

The Milwaukee Brewers are on their way to an NL Central division title on the backs of one of the best pitching duos in Major League Baseball. Corbin Burnes and Brandon Woodruff have been lights out all season and it looks like the former in that duo is going to take home the NL Cy Young award this season. The Brewers have also had some surprising bats show up in 2021 to lead the team toward the division crown, including Avisail Garcia and Luis Urias. Here we’re going to take a look at the Brewers magic number to clinch the division, providing some updates along the way.

Milwaukee Brewers magic number: Clinched NL Central

Sunday, Sept. 26 — The Brewers beat the Mets 8-4 and clinched the division with the win.

Saturday, Sept. 25 — The Brewers beat the Mets 5-1 while the Cardinals swept a doubleheader of the Cubs. Milwaukee’s magic number improved to 2.

Friday, Sept. 24 — The Brewers got swept in four games by the Cardinals and enter this weekend with a series against the Mets. Milwaukee remains in control of the division with 7.5 games on St. Louis.

Wednesday, Sept 22 — The Brewers lost to the Cardinals 10-2 leaving their magic number at three.

Tuesday, Sept 21 — The Brewers lost to the Cardinals 2-1 leaving their magic number at three.

Monday, Sept 20 — The Brewers lost to the Cardinals 5-2 and so their magic number remains three.

Sunday, Sept. 19 — The Brew Crew lost to the Cubs 6-4 on Sunday afternoon and the Cardinals picked up a win. Milwaukee’s magic number to clinch the division remains at 3 for now.

Saturday, Sept. 18 — The Brewers beat the Cubs 6-4. The Cardinals won as well, so Milwaukee picked up one game in their magic number.

Friday, Sept. 17 — The Brewers beat the Cubs 8-5. Since the Cardinals won their game against the Padres, Milwaukee only picks up one game in their magic number.

Thursday, Sept. 16 — The Brewers enter Thursday with a 12.5 game lead on the St. Louis Cardinals for first place. As a result, the Brew Crew is closest to shoring up their division title among the six in baseball. Milwaukee has an off day on Thursday before starting a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs.
