Following a rocky 2020 season, Thomas’ relationship with the Saints further fractured when he elected to wait until June to get ankle surgery, a decision head coach Sean Payton was not pleased about. The longtime NO head man declined to comment on Thomas’ social media outbursts today.
Even with a rapidly deteriorating relationship, the Saints would be hard pressed to trade their top receiver under any circumstance. Thomas signed a record five-year, $100 million contract extension in July of 2019 and according to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, New Orleans would have to eat just under $33 million in dead cap if they were to pull the trigger on a trade.
