Tokyo 2021 Olympics medal tracker: USA finishes over both total medals over/under odds

The 2021 Tokyo Olympics are officially a wrap and the USA reached a medal mark it has not seen sine 1984. Team USA finished the Olympics with 113 total medals, including 39 gold. This marked the most overall medals and gold medals, and was the second highest total in US history, at least for total medals in Olympiads that did not get an asterisk.

The two best years for overall USA medals was 1904 in St. Louis (239 total) and 1984 in Los Angeles (174). The 1904 St. Louis Olympics happened during the Russo-Japanese War and there were difficulties getting athletes to St. Louis. It resulted in America and Canada sending significantly more top-notch athletes that most other country. The 1984 LA Olympics happened with the Soviet Union boycotting the Games four years after the US boycotted the Moscow Games.

This marked the first Olympiad since PASPA was repealed, which meant there was considerable legal betting on Tokyo 2021. DraftKings Sportsbook offered odds on total US medals, and the US managed to go over both numbers. The lower pre-Olympics total was 109.5 with the over juiced to -136. The higher pre-Olympics total was 112.5, with the under juiced to -200.

The record outside of 1904 and 1984 was set five years ago at Rio 2016, in which the US finished with 121 total medals.
