UPDATE: Abraham Ancer beat Sam Burns and Hideki Matsuyama after he birdied the second hole of a playoff. He claims the $1.82 million first place prize money. Burns and Matsuyama split the second place ($1,150,000) and third place ($685,000) prize money.

The PGA Tour wraps up its third World Golf Championship event on Sunday at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. The FedEx St. Jude Invitational heads into Sunday with Harris English sitting at -18 and holding a two-stroke lead on Bryson DeChambeau and Cameron Smith.

The winner of the 2021 WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational will cash a check of up to $1,890,000 out of a $10.5 million total purse. The purse could change per person depending on ties. Abraham Ancer follows the English, DeChambeau, and Smith at -14, and Scottie Scheffler and Ian Poulter follow at -13.

The Tour is returning from an Olympic break that saw Xander Schauffele win the gold medal in Tokyo. The USOC awards $37,500 to gold medal winners. It pales compared to what Schauffele can earn in a given week on the PGA Tour, but there’s something to be said for the gold medal itself.

There are four WGC events with three on the official PGA Tour calendar. Each of the three Tour WGC events paid out a $10.5 million prize pool this year, with first place claiming $1.82 million. Collin Morikawa took home that prize in the WGC-Workday Championship and Billy Horschel claimed that prize when he won the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play.

The WGC tournaments are on the higher end of the payouts due to the invite-only pool of top tier talent attracting major sponsor dollars. Each of the three WGC tournaments just trails the majors. This year, the British Open and The Masters each had an $11.5 million purse, the PGA Championship was at $12 million, and the U.S. Open was $12.5 million. The Players Championship has continued hiking its purses in recent years to solidify its status as a quasi-fifth major and paid out a whopping $15 million in 2021.
