We have a 15-game slate in the majors on Friday, beginning at 2:20 p.m. ET. There are a lot good matchups happening across the league that will not a ton of betting implications.
We went 1-1 with our best bets on Thursday, bringing our record to 24-19. Our lone win came via the Toronto Blue Jays’ run line -1.5 (-110), who defeated Cleveland 3-0. But our bad beat was the Texas Rangers (-110), who lost 5-0 to the Los Angeles Angels. We thought that this was a perfect spot to fade Angels starter Dylan Bundy, who had an ERA over 6.00 and was winless on the road. But Los Angeles got to Rangers starting pitcher Spencer Howard and he was out the game by the third inning.
Here we’re going to be tracking all the best MLB picks base on the odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday’s baseball action.
MLB picks for Friday, August 6th — Record YTD (24-19)
Yankees -1.5 (+105) vs. Mariners
New York has been one of the hottest teams in baseball since the trade deadline on July 30. The Yankees are currently 10 games over .500 and have a record of 6-1 in their last 7 games. New York will try to win their fourth-straight game against the Mariners, who will have Marco Gonzales on the mound.
Gonzales has struggled on the road this season with a 2-3 record and 5.34 ERA in 6 starts. He’s also struggled pitching at night in 2021 with a skyrocketing ERA of 6.23. This seems like a great spot to the take the Yankees on the moneyline. But at -180 odds, that’s too high of a price to play. Therefore, we are going to play the run line for plus money. In the Yankees’ last 10 games, they have outscored their opponents by 10 runs. Also, in their last 7 games, they are defeating opposing teams by an average of three runs per game.
Cardinals (-155) vs. Royals
After getting swept by the Braves on Thursday night, the Cardinals will look to rebound on Friday night against their in-state rivals, the Royals. The Cards have Adam Wainwright on the mound, while the Royals will give the ball to Mike Minor.
The Cardinals’ offense has noticeably struggled in their last five games, scoring 3.4 runs per game. However, they should rebound with Minor on the mound for Kansas City. The veteran starter has not pitched well on the road this season with a 4-4 record and 5.25 ERA. Kansas City is also 1-4 in Minor’s last five road outings. As for Wainwright, the 39-year-old pitcher is still chugging along on the mound. He’s done well at Busch Stadium with a 5-4 record and 2.79 ERA in 13 starts. St. Louis is 4-1 in Wainwright’s last 5 home starts and scoring 3.8 runs per game. Back the Cards to snap their losing skid!
Chris Bassitt over 6.5 strikeouts (+110)
If you are looking a good plus-money strikeout prop, look no further than the Oakland Athletics starting pitcher. Bassitt has been dominant on the mound this season with a 11-3 record and 3.28 ERA through 22 starts. Oakland’s ace pitcher is facing a Rangers’ offense that is averaging 8.83 strikeouts per game this season and 9.38 strikeouts per game on the road.
This season, Bassitt has gone over 6.5 strikeouts in 11 out of 22 starts, which include 2 out of his last 3 outings. However, if that does not sway you to put some coin down on the A’s ace, in his last 5 home starts, Bassitt is averaging 7 strikeouts per game. In a game where the A’s are -310 on the moneyline, get some value with this pitching prop.
