Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley results: Live round-by-round updates

Not sure what fight judge Phil Rogers was watching giving it to Woodley, but the overall decision was correct. Jake Paul moves to 4-0, but has yet to still fight a professional boxer.

The latest in social media star vs. MMA fighter boxing is tonight in Cleveland, as Youtube’s Jake Paul takes on former UFC champion Tyron Woodley from Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in Cleveland, Ohio.

Jake Paul stands as a -180 favorite over Woodley at DraftKings Sportsbook, who is a +145 underdog. Paul’s 3-0 record comes against a fellow Youtuber, a former NBA player, and a former MMA fighter in Ben Askren who he outweighed by about 20 pounds in the ring. Woodley is 19-7-1 in MMA, but has never been in a professional boxing bout before.

Round 1: 10-9 Paul

Paul was 6-21 with his punches, and Woodley threw just six punches and landed one jab. The range of Paul seems to be a factor, and Woodley does look a bit stiff in there.

Round 2: 10-9 Paul

Woodley needs to find a way to let his hands go, because he’s just not doing anything to keep Paul off balance. It was a pretty miserable round by both, but Paul actually landed about two punches so he wins.

Round 3: 10-9 Woodley

Woodley landed a right as the bell rang, which might have been his best punch of the fight. Upon further review an upper cut from Paul did miss, so we’ll give it to Woodley. Still quite a boring fight without much action. (Note: Most judges gave this one to Paul).

Round 4: 10-9 Woodley

BIG round for Woodley, who is dominating with his right hand and clearly had Paul stunned as the ropes kept Paul up. We’ve got a momentum turn in Cleveland.

Round 5: 10-9 Paul

A much closer round, but Woodley seemed to score with a few blows. If Woodley can get in behind his jab, he can win this. But Paul has shown some range and power as well.

Round 6: 10-9 Paul

Woodley’s lack of boxing experience shows in his inability to follow-up good punches with combinations. Paul isn’t landing as great at first, but he’s getting the second-and-third blow in more effectively.

Round 7: 10-9 Paul

Paul wins the round with a few punches towards the bell, despite Woodley doing more damage early. The former UFC champ is going to need a KO to win this thing.

Round 8: 10-9 Woodley

Paul backed up enough that allowed Woodley to score with some effective punches, but in a fight that didn’t have a lot of action it didn’t take much to score.

Woodley probably won a maximum of three rounds, so we’re likely looking at a unanimous decision win for Paul.

Paul landed 71 of 207 punches, including 35 of 85 power shots. Woodley was 52-163, and 41-115 with non-jabs.
