DraftKings Sportsbook has released initial win totals for the 2021-22 NBA season. With the NBA draft and free agency wrapping up, here’s how the league’s 30 teams stack up according to oddsmakers. The NBA is planning to return to a full 82-game schedule this year, so keep that in mind when making any wagers. Here’s a look at some interesting numbers among the initial lines.
Chicago Bulls over 42.5 (+100) and Los Angeles Lakers over 53.5 (+100)
Chicago saw its NBA title odds rise after a busy free agency and Los Angeles made a blockbuster trade for Russell Westbrook before signing former Lakers to minimum contracts. Many expect the Bulls to make the playoffs, while the Lakers are contenders to win another title.
Given how the offseason has played out, it seems insane to be getting + odds at overs on relatively low numbers, especially for the Bulls. The Eastern conference is not as bad as it used to be, but Chicago is no worse than sixth at the moment. You can back this team to go over .500.
The Lakers will be going into the season relatively healthy and rested. They’ll also be contending in a slightly weaker Western conference than previous seasons. The Clippers are without Kawhi Leonard. The Nuggets will be without Jamal Murray for some time. The Suns should regress after a brilliant 2020-21 campaign. 53.5 seems like an appropriate line, but the over is very much in play here.
Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors 48.5 wins (Over -110, Under -110)
This is a big leap for the Heat, who won 44 games in 2019-20 and 40 games last season. Adding Kyle Lowry and PJ Tucker in free agency makes this line understandable, but the Heat coupled that with retaining Duncan Robinson and Victor Oladipo. If the latter comes back healthy, the over is going to be in play.
The Warriors’ season are almost entirely dependent on Klay Thompson’s health. If the two-way star is 100 percent, this team is a title contender. If he is in and out of the lineup, the Warriors are likely to remain a solid playoff team. James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody is an intriguing young trio worth monitoring this season, but Thompson is the big mystery for Golden State.
New York Knicks 41.5 wins (Over -110, Under -110)
The Knicks were one of the surprise teams from 2020-21, going 41-31 and making the playoffs. New York added Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier during the offseason, but its most important work might be filling out the roster with talents like Quentin Grimes and Miles McBride. Obi Toppin looks like a contender for Most Improved Player.
The East is much better in the middle of the conference, but the Knicks are going to be a playoff contender. They should be expected to improve on their record from last season, especially with 10 additional games and their improved roster. There’s not great value at -110, but the over should be the play here.
