We have a 16-game slate in the majors Tuesday, beginning at 1:05 p.m. ET. There are a lot good matchups happening across the league that will feature a ton of betting implications.
We ended last week on a good note as the Marlins (-150) defeated the woeful Cubs 5-4 on Saturday night, bringing our record to 32-25. The Chicago Cubs have been one of the worst teams in baseball as they’ve lost an unprecedented 12 consecutive games. This is the Cubs’ second losing streak of 10 games or more. However, they aren’t the only team, who is on a long losing streak. The Orioles have lost 12 straight games after they were defeated 9-2 by the Tampa Bay Rays.
Here we’re going to be tracking all the best MLB picks base on the odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook for Tuesday’s baseball action.
MLB picks for Tuesday, August 17th — Record YTD (32-25)
Blue Jays -1.5 (-120) vs. Nationals
Along with the Cubs and Orioles, the Washington Nationals have also had their fair share of struggles, losing seven consecutive games. The Nationals will try to snap their losing streak on Tuesday night against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Jays recently snapped their three-game losing streak on Sunday after defeating the Mariners 8-3. Toronto will have Alek Manoah on the mound, who is 5-1 with an ERA of 2.59. The Nationals will give the ball to Erick Fedde, who is 4-8 with an ERA of 5.12.
Based on the pitching matchups alone, it is not a surprise to see that the Jays are -200 on the moneyline. But that’s too high of a price to pay, the best play here is the Jays’ run line at -120 odds. In their last 10 games, Toronto has outscored their opponents by 5 runs, but we know their offense is capable of producing a big inning at any time. Meanwhile, the Nats are being outscored by 23 runs in their last 10 games. Fedde has struggled in his last two starts, giving up 14 hits and 6 earned runs in 8.2 IP. Don’t think twice with this pick, back the Blue Jays to start off your Tuesday night.
Framber Valdez over 4.5 strikeouts (-110) vs. Royals
The Astros are looking to get back into the win column after losing 7-6 on Monday night to the Royals. Houston will give the ball to starter Framber Valdez, who has pitched well away from Minute Maid Park with a 4-2 record and 3.03 ERA. Valdez has gone over his strikeout prop in an incredible 10 out of 14 starts this season, which includes his last 3 outings.
In his last five road starts, Valdez is averaging 4.8 strikeouts per game. Now granted, he’ll be facing a Royals’ offense that is batting .242 and only produces 8.01 strikeouts per game. But at 4.5 at -110 odds, I think the 27-year-old starting pitcher can get this.
Marcus Stroman over 4.5 strikeouts (-115) vs. Giants
In one of the last few games on tonight’s slate, the New York Mets will be taking on the San Francisco Giants. The Mets are currently on a four-game losing streak and will look to snap their skid with Marcus Stroman on the mound. Stroman has fared well on the road this year with a 2.64 ERA in 12 starts. The veteran pitcher has gone over 4.5 strikeouts in 13 out of 24 starts, including 3 out of his last 5 starts. In his last 5 road outings, Stroman is averaging 4.4 strikeouts per game. He’ll be going against a Giants’ offense that is producing 9.25 Ks per game this season and 8.61 Ks per game at home.
