It was a wild weekend filled with plenty of goals to open the 2021-22 English Premier League season, but a low-scoring result was the true shocker as Tottenham Hotspur knocked off champions and current championship favorites Manchester City 1-0 in North London on Sunday.
Son Heung-min’s tally in the 55th minute was the difference, as the striker who has played in the shadow of Harry Kane for so long earned the winner against what appears to be Kane’s forthcoming club.

Kane was not on the bench for Spurs, likely due to an impending move to City for about a $200 million transfer fee that is soon expected by all sides.
It was a shocking result for Spurs and new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who wasn’t the first choice to be the leader of the club. The 4-3-2-1 formation he used was certainly unexpected, and forced the billion dollar boys from Manchester to play more wide than usual. It was effective, and appreciated by a packed stadium that was in full voice all afternoon.
Spurs were +440 at DraftKings Sportsbook, with City at -162 and draw at +310 on the three-way line.
