The Selection Committee is the only ranking that matters for determining the national champion, as the 13-member board makes a subjective assessment of each team and picks the best four to play in the CFP Semifinals. The board is made up of athletic directors, former college football coaches and players, and one professor to give it the air of academic credibility.

This year the semifinals are the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl, both on New Year’s Eve, with the national championships at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN on January 10th.
