DeShaun Watson has made it clear that he is not happy in Houston and wants to be traded, but has been showing up to training camp so we won’t incur fines. He is also under investigation for multiple sexual assault and harassment allegations by both the NFL and law enforcement authorities. His status at training camp has been limited, as he’s reportedly dealt with injuries, but did return to camp yesterday.
Head coach Nic Caserio now says that Watson won’t travel to Green Bay for their first preseason game, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The situation is impossible to navigate clearly, but there’s little doubt Watson and the team aren’t going to risk injury while Watson status is limbo. The team wants a healthy Watson for a trade and Watson doesn’t want to play for Houston, so he’s likely not keen to put much effort into their training camp.
No team is going to send any real assets for Watson until they know if he can play this season. This situation isn’t likely going to clear up anytime soon. Tyrod Taylor is set to be the Texans quarterback in 2021.
