Report: Dennis Schroder goes to Celtics on one-year deal

Veteran guard Dennis Schroder has signed a one-year contract with the Boston Celtics in free agency, according to Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal is for $5.9 million. Schroder previously signed a four-year, $70 million contract with the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2018 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

The German-veteran’s 2020-21 season with the defending champion Lakers was a mixed bag. He put up a productive 15.4 points and 5.8 assists while averaging 32.1 minutes per game throughout the regular season and was 20th in the NBA in defensive win shares (2.7). But like several of his L.A. teammates, he couldn’t escape the injury bug as late in the season, he battled a foot injury and had to sit out at one point due to COVID protocols.

In Game 5 of the their first-round series against the Phoenix Suns, Schroder put up one of the worst performances of his career, going 0-for-9 from the field against the eventual Western Conference champions and drawing the ire of Laker fans and Magic Johnson himself. Time will tell if a new season will do wonders for his reputation.
