It’s a change of scenery for new Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff after being traded from the LA Rams this offseason.
Here, we’ll take a look at the prop bets on the table for Goff on DraftKings Sportsbook ahead of the 2021 NFL season and make our picks. Will the new team propel him to new heights, or will it show that his previous team’s talent was propping him up for the last few seasons.
3,995.5 yds (Over -115, Under -115)
Our pick: Under
Analysis: In Goff’s four full seasons at the helm of an NFL offense, he’s gone over this number twice already. Granted, that was with a much better overall team, but he still has the ability to get it done. Last season, when the Lions were struggling to hold onto anything, Matt Stafford still racked up over 4,100 yards.
But the team saw a lot of turnover at receiver and brought in a bunch of veteran pass catchers on one-year deals to prove themselves and drafted Amon-Ra St. Brown, who could be a legitimate superstar. They’re set at tight end with TJ Hockenson, but it’s doubtful that will be enough to hit this number.
There are also question marks surrounding first-year head coach Dan Campbell. He’s never been a full-time head coach before, so it’s not really known how he wants to build his team and what kind of offense he’ll run, but early indications lean toward a run-heavy, hard-nosed squad.
20.5 passing TDs (Over -110, Under -120)
Our pick: Under
Analysis: Last season, with a much more talented crop of pass-catchers in LA, Goff only finished the year with 20 passing scores. Stafford, who is objectively a better QB than Goff, had just 27 touchdown passes with a better stable to receivers than the Lions currently have. Unless something wild happens, it’ll be tough to envision Goff hitting 21 touchdown passes.
