Update: Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is named the tournament’s best player. It’s the first time a goalkeeper has been named as the Player of the Tournament. Donnarumma was brilliant over the course of the competition and made three crucial saves in the final penalty shootout to lift Italy to the title.
Euro 2020 comes to a close Sunday when Italy and England meet to determine the continent’s next champion. England’s Raheem Sterling has clearly separate himself as the tournament’s best player, but teammate Harry Kane is in the running along with Italians Jorginho and Giorgio Chiellini. He was partially responsible for creating Denmark’s own goal and drawing a penalty to send the Three Lions to the final. Sterling was England’s only goalscorer through the majority of four matches before Kane finally got on the board. He’s the pick to win this award.
Best bet
It’s hard to see anyone dethroning Sterling, who was +5000 at the beginning of Euro 2020 to win this honor. Kane was +1300 entering the tournament and could have a big final to push him to the top of this list, but it’s a two-man race at best. And in reality, Sterling has a big edge over Kane.
