We had another split for our best bets on Thursday's MLB slate, bringing our record to 10-14. We picked up a win with the Los Angeles Dodgers (-155), who defeated the Miami Marlins 6-1 to start off the day. However, we had a bad beat player prop as Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal only recorded 5 strikeouts in 6.0 IP against the Twins. We officially played Skubal’s over 5.5 strikeouts at -127 odds yesterday, which was not bad in theory. If you are keeping count of how we are doing with strikeout props, the record stands at 4-6.
Here we’re going to be tracking all the best MLB picks base on the odds and lines on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday night’s baseball action.
MLB picks for Friday, July 9th
White Sox (-136) vs. Orioles
I wanted to play the other Chicago team, who desperately need a win after their showing this week against the Phillies at Wrigley. I’m going to stay away from them and instead play the White Sox, who open up a three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night.
The White Sox, who are the walking wounded, have won two consecutive games and will hope to make it three against Orioles starter Jorge Lopez. The 28-year-old has downright struggled this season with a 2-11 record and 6.02 ERA. Lopez has allowed 14 HRs in 2021, which includes 6 at home with a 5.59 ERA and 1-4 record. The Orioles are 0-5 in his last five starts and 2-3 in his last five home outings.
Meanwhile, White Sox starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel is looking to bounce from his last start, which was on the road against the Detroit Tigers. The veteran pitcher has not played well on the road this season (5.35 ERA), hence why the Orioles are only +115 underdogs. That being said, I like the White Sox’s offense to get it done versus Lopez, but don’t be surprised if it’s a high-scoring game.
Charlie Morton over 6.5 strikeouts (-114)
The Braves are coming off a 14-3 win over the Pirates and will start a three-game series tonight against the Marlins. Atlanta will turn the ball over to veteran Charlie Morton, who has a 7-3 record and 3.91 ERA in 17 starts this season. This will be the third time that Morton is taking on the Marlins. In his first two starts against Miami, Morton has gone over 6.5 strikeouts once. But he has gone over his strikeout prop in 8 out of 17, which includes his last four starts. Morton is averaging 6.6 strikeouts per game on the road and is facing a Marlins’ offense that averages 9.72 strikeouts per game this season (9.20 Ks per game at home).
